Opiate Treatment
Various methods of treatment and rehabilitation exist to assist those who are addicted to opiates in coping with their addiction, overcoming the challenges of rehabilitation and ultimately living drug free. Opiate treatment programs provide a safe, secure environment where addicts can get counseling and therapy as well as undergo safe, medically monitored detox to ensure their complete recovery from this deadly disease. Opiate addiction does not have to be the end of the road—help is available at various opiate treatment centers and rehab centers throughout the country.
Opiate Addiction Treatment
The two most common methods of addiction treatment are inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment. For many addicts who suffer from opiate addiction, inpatient addiction treatment is necessary to ensure that they actually remain on track and work toward their recovery goals with limited chance of relapse. Opiate addiction treatment typically lasts a period of at least 90 days but may last a period of up to one year or even more in severe cases. Read more about opiate addiction treatment here.
Methadone Treatment for Opiate Addiction
Methadone is a synthetic opiate that was originally created to assist those addicted to opiates such as heroin or prescription painkillers in overcoming their physical dependence and stopping their opiate abuse. Methadone was to be a non-habit forming method of treatment for addicts but after a few years, doctors quickly realized that this drug was even more addictive than some of the other opiates on the streets at that time. Methadone treatment for opiate addiction is still used by some addicts but it’s important to consider the potential for habit to form from the use of this drug as with any other opiate. If you think that you or someone you know has overdose on opiates, seek immediate medical help by calling 911. Opiate overdose treatment will likely consist of having the stomach pumped, being administered an antidote drug to counteract the effects of the opiate or simply monitoring and treating any side effects that result from the overdose and allowing the drug to take its course in time. Opiate detox is the process of effectively eliminating opiates from the body by no longer using the drug and allowing nature to take its course. Opiate detox typically takes about 2 weeks but may take longer if the drug was used for a prolonged period of time or depending on other individual circumstances related to the addict.
